    Interstate 5 California

By sheer numbers, the Interstate 5 in California is the longest & most commonly traveled California highway... the i-5 is the main north-south transportation corridor through California for both people and cargo.

The i-5 in California runs the entire north-south length of the state... from the south at the US/Mexico border (just south of San Diego, CA), to the north at the Siskiyou Mountains (just north of Yreka, CA).

The i-5 generally runs in a north-south direction, however, the highway does has a slight south-east/north-west directional slant in the southern half of the state.

The i-5 conveniently directly connects several of the larger cities in California, like; San Diego, Los Angeles, and Sacramento, and of course, the i-5 connects many dozens of smaller cities along it's route... making for easy automotive travel between a large number of Californian cities.

The i-5 also indirectly connects to several other larger Californian cites like; San Francisco, San Jose, and San Bernardino... and while these cities do not connect directly to the i-5, they are located within a relatively short drive of the highway and connect via other easily connectable local highways; IE:
    - San Francisco is located within approx. 70 miles of the i-5,
    - San Jose is located within approx. 55 miles of the i-5,
    - San Bernardino is located within approx. 58 miles of the i-5.

The i-5 in California is intersected by several other major interstate highways; IE:
    - Interstate 8 connects with the i-5 in the San Diego area, which travels eastward.
    - Interstate 15 connects with the i-5 in the San Diego area, which travels northeastward
    - Interstate 10 connects with the i-5 in the Los Angeles area, which travels east & southeastward.
    - Interstate 80 connects with the i-5 in the Sacramento area, which travels northeastward.

According to the software program Streets & Trips, the length of the i-5 in California is approx. 780 miles long, with an estimated driving time of approx. 11 hrs. & 12 minutes.
